Rho Kappa Honor Society
Rho Kappa Honor Society

An open invitation to all High School Social Studies Departments to recognize your best students

The Florida Council for the Social Studies has now established an academic honor society for high school juniors and seniors. Such students must have demonstrated excellent academic performance in the discipline, provided community service toward their school or community, and exhibited the attributes of leadership and good citizenship. FCSS is aware of the need for a statewide student award program that recognizes students for their achievement in required and elective social studies courses and for their applying such precepts to their daily lives. To be eligible, students must maintain a minimum 3.5 unweighted G.P.A. in their social studies classes and must have (or be able to earn) at least four credits in the discipline upon graduation.

Any Florida High School may organize an individual chapter of Rho Kappa. The annual membership fee of $35 includes 50 blank student certificates for student inductees, a packet of materials containing a sample Constitution, student membership applications, a student Induction Ceremony script, an FCSS affiliation agreement, and more. Additional certificates, membership cards, and medallions with 30 inch neck-drapes are available at a very low cost. (See below) The Honor Society Memorabilia is now available. All profit resulting from the program will be invested in student scholarship programs or in recognizing student winners of state-wide social studies competitions such as Florida History Day, etc.

The Rho Kappa Complete Packet contains affiliation agreement, Constitution, student membership forms and application for student officers, sample induction ceremony and more! Each your be sure to renew your affiliate agreement with the Rho Kappa Re-Affiliation Form.

RHO KAPPA MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM

The Florida Council for the Social Studies has established an academic honor society for seventh and eight graders. Such students must have excellent academic performance in Social Studies, community service toward their school or community and exhibited the attributes of leadership and good citizenship. FCSS is aware of the need for a statewide student program that recognizes young students for their achievements.

Requirements for induction and continued membership include a minimum 3.5 GPA in their social studies classes and 20 hours community service each year of membership. We recommend participation in academic games, a history fair project or major social studies project but this requirement is at the discretion of the individual schools.

Any Florida middle school may organize an individual chapter of Rho Kappa. The annual membership fee is $20.00 per school which includes 50 blank student certificates to be used for induction. This will also include a sample Constitution, student membership applications, a student induction script, an FCSS affiliation agreement, and more certificates, membership cards are available at a very low cost.
