District 14/15 Report– Miami-Dade County
The Miami-Dade Council for the Social Studies honored 17 outstanding social studies teachers at the annual awards dinner April 26, at the Rusty Pelican Restaurant. The Outstanding Elementary, Middle, High School, as well as Beginning Teacher were recognized for their dedication to the social studies.

On April 29, 2006 the Miami-Dade Council hosted the 2006 Spring Conference, “Celebrating Our community, Our Heritage, and Our History” hosted by the Historical Museum of Southern Florida. The half day conference featured local historians and faculty from Miami-Dade College, Florida International University, and the University of Miami. The Conference allowed local social studies teachers to learn more about professional development opportunities as well as network with teachers.
