District 7 Report---Pinellas County
The Pinellas Council for the Social Studies (PCSS) was involved in the planning and implementation of a mini style training conference for all county social studies teachers on August 3, 2006. There were several sessions for teachers to attend, ranging from using technology software, grant writing for the endowment, learning about the life of Ben Franklin, beginning teacher training and many more. The PCSS served breakfast and distributed informational handouts to every participant. Included in these handouts were flyers about the upcoming FCSS conference in Miami as well as application forms for membership in both FCSS and PCSS.
Our annual banquet took place on August 30, 2006. At the banquet we honored our Teachers’ of the Year, confirmed our slate of officers for the upcoming year and for fun, played Quiz Bowl with teachers from many schools competing against each other. The PCSS executive board is in the planning stages for teacher training opportunities and socials that we will offer for this school year. Many members of the Pinellas Council for the Social Studies will be in attendance at the Miami Conference and we hope to see you all there.
