Hello District 2 Counties! I hope that this newsletter finds you healthy and happy. The school year is flying by and many of us are spending a lot of time focusing on FCAT preparation. FCAT seems to be taking a greater precedent than social studies curriculum. I am hopeful that our new governor will bring a more balanced perspective to the FCAT testing situation. I truly believe that our social studies classes are valuable and worthy if our society intends to have an educated population; people capable of making intelligent choices.
The FCSS Drive-in Regional Conference in Tallahassee on February 3 is rapidly approaching. Please register to attend. This is a wonderful professional opportunity at a reasonable cost of $30.00 which includes a complementary breakfast, lunch and dessert social! The program is loaded with interesting topics for elementary, middle and high school levels at every session. The conference begins at 8:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 3, 2006, at Tallahassee Community College. Let me know if you need more information.
Keep up the good work and don’t forget why you went into the teaching profession. The students need you; our profession needs you.
You truly are important.
