Award winners were honored at a dinner given in their honor at the 2006 October FCSS Conference in Miami, Florida

Warren Tracy Beginning Teacher Award Finalists

Sponsored by McDougal-Littell

This award is given to any beginning classroom teacher who is teaching elementary social studies, or teaching grade 6-12 social studies for the majority of the day.  The applicant must have no more than three years experience in the classroom.  Recipients will demonstrate the ability to engage students in meaningful, purposeful lessons that engender student interest and awareness; involvement with school/community activities; and leadership on behalf of education.  This ward was created in honor of Warren Tracy, retired Social Studies Supervisor in Duval County, and a former president of FCSS.

Excellence in Teaching History Award

Sponsored by Pearson Prentice Hall

This award is given to recognize and celebrate a Florida teacher of history who encourages an appreciation and respect for history, involves students in the historical process, and evidences mastery of the subject matter. The applicant must currently be teaching history in a Florida elementary, middle, or high school. Award is a $500 cash prize, free annual conference registration, and publication of lesson plans in the FCSS e-newsletter: Trends and Issues

Global Education Award, 2006

The purpose of this award is to honor a current elementary or secondary teacher who conveys to his/her students an appreciation of diverse cultures, and infuses a global awareness via the instructional process throughout the school year. The teacher must submit a portfolio meeting the criteria set by the award committee. The award consists of a $500 cash prize, plus $500 in media center materials for the teacher’s school media center
