Pinellas Council for the Social Studies—District 7

The Pinellas Council for the Social Studies held a special event on Saturday, February 24 for all its members.  This Civil War reenactment took place at Fort DeSoto Park and included a lunch of hot dogs, baked beans, cole slaw, strawberry shortcake and drinks.  The 97th Regimental Civil War Re-enactors staged the 8th Annual Battle of Ballast Point.  The day’s events also included a mock military trial and execution, artillery demonstrations, infantry drills, a ladies afternoon tea, a ferry trip to the Civil War lighthouse on Egmont Key, drum and fife music performances,  and Civil War medical demonstrations.

All of this including the picnic was only $5 for PCSS (Pinellas Council for the Social Studies) members.  Several students and their teachers attended and fun was had by all.  Currently PCSS is reviewing the nominations for our district Teacher of the Year awards.  Each teacher nominated will submit a brief outline of their professional background, how they have supported Social Studies,  and how they have impacted the lives of their students.
