The North Florida Regional Conference held at Tallahassee Community College on February 3, 2007 had the largest attendance of any regional conference in the history of the Florida Council for the Social Studies. What a way to start off the 50th Anniversary year of FCSS! The 155 educators attending chose from a varied selection of presentations throughout the day long event. Exhibits displaying items of interest from 27 profit and non-profit organizations were also very well attended.
The conference started with a complimentary continental breakfast and a warm welcome from Dr. Marcy Driscoll, Dean of the College of Education at Florida State University followed by comments by Dr. Monte Finkelstein, Dean of History and Sciences at Tallahassee Community College. Florida Council for the Social Studies President, Jane Palmer, welcomed members and guests.
The day progressed with a complimentary coffee break, lunch and dessert social with numerous door prizes. Thank you to everyone who made this conference successful. We feel proud that social studies teachers from pre-kindergarten to university levels of social studies education were involved in a variety of quality presentations targeting a large number of issues, resources, and teaching strategies beneficial to our profession.
