FCSS names New Director Emeritus
Congratulations to Debbie Gallagher, the most recently recognized Director Emeritus of the Florida Council for the Social Studies. Debbie has served in many positions on the FCSS Board beginning in 1989 as the Awards Chair. She has worked with Trends as the Advertising Editor, served as Conference Coordinator, Hospitality Chair and President of FCSS. Her leadership roles included NCSS where she served on the Board of Directors and was both treasurer and president of the National Social Studies Supervisors Association.
Debbie is currently the Curriculum Specialist in Alachua County for Fine Arts, Foreign Language, elementary Social Studies and Diversity. She believes the knowledge gained through discussions and readings on best practices with others as passionate as she is regarding Social Studies education has helped her be a better teacher, a better “teacher of teachers” and a better administrator. Her professional world expanded greatly when she became involved with state and national organizations allowing her opportunities for professional growth beyond the classroom. Debbie feels that she has met the nicest people through her work on the board. Additionally, the opportunity to meet people with her same interests from around the state and nation is exciting and rewarding!
