                                        Call for Applications

The Florida Council for the Social Studies (FCSS) is accepting applications for the following five (5) remunerated professional positions in our organization:

  • Executive Director
  • Treasurer
  • Conference Coordinator
  • Membership and Marketing Coordinator
  • Publications Coordinator

Applications for these positions will be accepted through August 1, 2007. Include a resume that highlights experiences and skills that you will bring to the position sought and any other information you deem important for the selection committee.

Finalists will be interviewed by the FCSS Management Committee for employment to start January 1, 2008.

FCSS JOB DESCRIPTIONS:

FCSS Executive Director

Selection:   Nominated by Management Committee and elected by Board of Directors.

Term of Employment:         Three years (Jan. 1 – Dec. 31).   

Upon recommendation of 4/5ths of the Management Committee and 3/4ths vote of the Board, the term of employment may be ended with sixty days notice.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

                1. Recommend candidates for the positions of Treasurer, Conference Coordinator, Publications Coordinator, and Membership and Marketing Coordinator to the Management Committee.

2. Supervise the duties of the Treasurer, Conference Coordinator, Publications Coordinator, and Membership and Marketing Coordinator.

3. Evaluate the performance of the Treasurer, Conference Coordinator, Publications Coordinator, and Membership and Marketing Coordinator and make recommendations to the Management Committee.

4. Negotiate and distribute compensation to the Treasurer, Conference Coordinator, Publications Coordinator, and Membership and Marketing Coordinator within the parameters established by the Board of Directors.

5. Administer the Operating Fund Asset Account, all CD and Investment Accounts, the Management Reserve Fund, the Reserve Fund, and the Endowment Fund.

6. Serve as Treasurer and member of the Endowment Board.

7. Supervise the Treasurer in preparation of the Annual Financial Statement, Budget Worksheet, IRS Tax documents and all other required financial reporting.

8. Recommend necessary audit and accounting mechanisms necessary to protect the assets of the organization.

9. Maintain sole legal contracting authority for the organization.

10. Prepare the Florida Corporate Report and NCSS Affiliation Report.

11. Serve as an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors.

Benefits/Compensation:    

Annual Salary : $7000.00

Benefits:              

·         Waiver of FCSS Dues

·         Waiver of non-reimbursed FCSS conference registration fees

·         Travel reimbursement for FCSS Conference, including coach airfare or mileage at current rate and non-reimbursed single occupancy lodging for three nights

·         NCSS Comprehensive Membership Dues

·         Travel reimbursement for NCSS Conference, including coach airfare and non-reimbursed single occupancy lodging for three nights.

·         Travel reimbursement for all FCSS meeting functions, including coach airfare or mileage at current rate and single occupancy lodging

Salary and all benefits paid will be reduced prorated for the current year if the position is vacated with less than six months notice. 

FCSS Treasurer

Selection:              Nominated by Executive Director to Management Committee. 

Term of Employment:         Three years. (January 1 – December 31)

Upon recommendation of the Executive Director and 4/5ths vote of the Management Committee, the term of employment may be ended with sixty days notice.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Administer the Operating Account of the Florida Council including:   

      • Receipt of membership and conference income
      • Disbursement of funds authorized by the Council or Executive Director
      • Supervise financial transactions in the conference registration area

2. Prepare financial statements for the Management Committee, Executive 

Board, FCSS board  as needed.

3. Provide documentation to the Executive Director for payment of contingent compensation to Coordinators and associated staff.

4. Prepare the Annual Financial Statement, Budget Worksheet, and IRS Tax documents for approval by the Executive Director.

5. Provide regular financial reporting as requested by the Executive Director

Benefits/Compensation:    

Annual Salary - $3500.00

Benefits           

·         Waiver of FCSS Dues

·         Waiver of non-reimbursed conference registration fees

·         Travel reimbursement for FCSS Conference, including coach airfare or mileage at current rate and non-reimbursed single occupancy lodging for three nights 

·         Travel reimbursement for all required FCSS meeting functions, including coach airfare or mileage at current rate and single occupancy lodging.

Salary and all benefits paid will be reduced prorated for the current year if the position is vacated with less than six months notice. 

FCSS Conference Coordinator

Selection: Nominated by Executive Director to Management Committee

Term of Employment: Three Years (January 1 – December 31)

                Upon recommendation of 4/5ths of the Management Committee, the term may be ended with sixty days notice.  This decision can be overturned by a 3/4ths vote of the Board.

Duties and Responsibilities:     

1.        Upon receiving area recommendations from the Board, locate hotel

or convention center conference sites.

2.        Make recommendations of hotel sites or convention centers for the

annual conference and work with the Executive Director in negotiating

contracts.

3.        Communicate with school districts where the conference site is located.

4.        Communicate regularly with and coordinate the activities of the Conference

Chairs.  Assist as needed.

5.        Take care of all mailings for the conference.

6.        Communicate regularly with the meeting site to ensure that all needs are

being met.

7.        Develop the conference theme in cooperation with the Program Chair and

members of the Local Planning Committee or other designated committee

 for this purpose.

8.        Assist the Program Chair and Local Planning Committee with securing

guest speakers.

9.        Oversee conference promotion/advertisement.

10.     Respond to email and other inquiries regarding the conference.

11.     Prepare a conference budget.

12.     Coordinate conference evaluations.

13.     Troubleshoot all problems during the conference.

14.     Nominate conference chairs for approval by the Management Committee.

Benefits/Compensation:

Annual Salary: $2,000 base from share of 10% of Conference profit (remainder shared with

                Conference Chairs as determined by the coordinator)

Benefits:

·         Waiver of FCSS dues

·         Waiver of non-reimbursed FCSS Conference registration fees

·         Travel reimbursement for FCSS Conference, including coach airfare or

mileage at current rate and non-reimbursed single occupancy lodging for

three nights

·         NCSS Conference registration fees

·         Travel reimbursement for NCSS Conference, including coach airfare and

non-reimbursed single occupancy lodging for three nights

·         Travel reimbursement for all required FCSS meeting functions, including

coach airfare or mileage at current rate and single occupancy lodging

·         Travel reimbursement for Conference site inspections, including coach

airfare or mileage at current rate and non-complementary lodging.

Salary and benefits paid to be reduced prorated for the current year if the position is vacated with less than six months notice.

FCSS Membership and Marketing Coordinator

Selection:              Nominated by Executive Director to Management Committee. 

Term of Employment:         Three years  (January 1-December 31)

Upon recommendation of the Executive Director and ¾ vote of the Management Committee,

the term of employment may be ended with sixty days notice.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Membership     

                                (a) develop membership promotional campaigns

                                (b) develop membership retention campaigns

                                (c) maintain membership records

                                (d) provide renewal notices

2. Marketing

                                (a) develop merchandising for promotion and profit

                                (b) develop campaigns to promote the visibility of FCSS

                                (c)  maintain and distribute merchandise

3. Rho Kappa Honor Society

                                (a) maintain Rho Kappa membership records

                                (b) maintain Rho Kappa merchandise

                                (c) serve as contact for Rho Kappa Chapters

                                (d) promote Rho Kappa expansion

4. Provide regular financial and inventory reporting as requested by the

 

     Executive Director

Benefits/Compensation:    

Annual Salary - $1500.00 base plus $1.00 per non-conference membership

Benefits :

  • Waiver of FCSS dues
  • Waiver of non-reimbursed conference registration fees
  • Travel reimbursement for FCSS Conference, including coach airfare or

mileage at current rate and non-reimbursed three night’s single occupancy lodging

  • Travel reimbursement for all required FCSS meeting functions under normal

Board travel regulations.

Salary and all benefits paid will be reduced pro-rata for the current year if the

position is vacated with less than six months notice. 

FCSS Publications Coordinator

Selection:              Nominated by Executive Director to Management Committee. 

Term of Employment:         Three Year term (January 1 – December 31)

Upon recommendation of the Executive Director and a 4/5ths vote of the Management Committee, the term may be ended with 60 days notice.
