Return to FCSS Celebrates 50th Anniversary at October Conference Home
LAND OF SUNSHINE, STATE OF DREAMS: FLORIDA IN THE 20TH CENTURY, is a day long workshop for Social Studies educators and stars FLORIDA as the subject! From a swampy southern backwater to bellwether mega-state, Florida’s 20th Century transformation from Dixieland to dreamland is a compelling historical saga.
This workshop will provide rich context and critical content in the study of modern Florida history. Dr. Gary Mormino, author of Land of Sunshine State of Dreams: A Social History of Modern Florida, will lead the workshop and will be joined by Dr. Susan MacManus, University of South Florida, and Dr. Bruce Stephenson, Rollins College.
With funding from a We the People grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, this program is conducted by the Florida Humanities Council in partnership with the Social Studies and Language Arts Departments of Collier County.
