The Florida Council for the Social Studies Endowment Board sponsors mini grants, scholarships and institutes for educators in Florida. This Endowment Board has awarded over $100,000 in the past 10 years and has recently awarded a gift of $25,000 to Florida State University. This gift, the first installment of a $100,000 grant establishing an Endowment in the FSU Education Department, helps students who are pursuing a career in Social Studies Education.
Endowment grants are also available for individual teachers who are looking for funding (up to $2000) for an innovative project or scholarship for attendance at a seminar. We have granted money for the start up of a school’s History Fair, oral history projects, and Rho Kappa chapters. Please visit our web site at www.fcss.org and click on Endowment for more information.
The preliminary proposal forms are located on the FCSS web site. If you have a project that you are considering and don’t know if it will fit the criteria, direct your questions to Kris Scola email at scolak@pcsb.org. Please keep in mind-- Endowment funds are not used to fund commercially developed materials or to purchase equipment.
The Endowment Board needs support for its funding. We accept all donations of course, and with a $10 donation you can receive a free tee shirt. The tee shirts come three colors, teal, royal blue, and jade in all sizes ranging from small to 2XL. Please make your $12 checks (includes donation and shipping) payable to FCSS and send it to the address listed below. Please include your choice of color, size, and your address, and the tee shirt will be sent to you.
FCSS 50th anniversary books are still available! Checks for these books should be made payable to FCSS for $13.00 (includes donation and shipping).
Send checks for purchases to the FCSS Endowment Chair, Kris Scola, at the following address:
