Return to February 2008 Home
The Florida Humanities Council hopes you fondly remember your time with us in St. Augustine during your summer teacher’s workshop. FHC is pleased to announce that we have once again received funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities to conduct workshops for teachers from across the country. This year, we’re undertaking an exciting new topic, the life and work of Zora Neale Hurston, author of Their Eyes Were Watching God. Writer, folklorist, anthropologist, and arguably the most significant collector and interpreter of Southern African-American culture, Hurston spent her childhood in Eatonville, the oldest incorporated black municipality in America. The workshops will take place just down the road from Eatonville, at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.
The best news is that because this is a new workshop location and topic, you are eligible to apply! For more information about the workshop visit www.flahum.org/zora
Also, we could really use your help spreading the word to other excellent teachers. Please forward this e-mail to any educator you think might benefit from this experience.
