Suggested criteria for selecting the

FCSS OUTSTANDING SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHERS OF THE YEAR

The following is a list of suggested criteria for selecting the outstanding elementary, middle/junior, and senior high school social studies teachers of the year in your district.  Please use any and all of these guidelines and any additional criteria helpful in making your nomination.

PROFESSIONALISM:

Gathers and uses ideas from a variety of sources.

            Seeks and uses available help in planning an implementing lessons.

            Demonstrates a positive, professional attitude toward the many tasks

                        involved in teaching and learning.

            Maintains constructive, ethical relationships with students, parents and

                        colleagues.

TEACHING AND TESTING METHODS

            Uses a variety of instructional methods and activities.

            Constructs teachable and testable learning objectives and lesson plans.

Uses tests and test results to help students strengthen their learning

            weaknesses.

Uses resourceful methods to individualize instruction.

STUDENT – TEACHER RELATIONSHIPS

            Is positive and enthusiastic with students.

            Respects and is respected by students.
